Itinerary
Your Kilimanjaro adventure begins with an early morning pick-up from your hotel in Arusha or Moshi at 07:00. A scenic 2-hour drive takes you through fertile slopes and Chagga villages to Londorosi Gate (2,100m), where you'll register and meet your certified Kilimanjaro guide.
From here, a ranger-accompanied drive through lush rainforest zones leads to Morum Picnic Site (3,400m), the starting point for your hike. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, baboons, and even traces of buffalo are often seen here.
The hike continues across the moorland zone, where hardy alpine vegetation surrounds you. You’ll trek to Shira 1 Camp and Lion Gorge, witnessing dramatic cliffs and the foothills of the Shira Pinnacles. On clear days, the glaciers of Kibo Peak shimmer above, seemingly within arm’s reach.
This plateau was once a volcanic cone, now eroded and covered in wildflowers, heathers, and stunning geological formations — a dream for both hikers and photographers. Enjoy your packed lunch on the open plains as you soak in views of Shira, Kibo, and Mawenzi Peaks.
