Day Trip to Lake Manyara National Park

Depart early from Arusha and journey westward through scenic highlands, past banana plantations and Maasai homesteads, before descending into the Great Rift Valley. Stop briefly in the vibrant town of Mto wa Mbu, known for its bustling markets and cultural diversity.

Upon entering Lake Manyara National Park, prepare for a stunning shift in terrain from evergreen groundwater forests filled with baboons and blue monkeys to open grasslands where elephants roam and giraffes stride gracefully.

The park is an avian haven, boasting over 400 bird species, including flamingos, pelicans, storks, and kingfishers. Scan the treetops for the elusive tree-climbing lions, a rare behavior found in only a few places in Africa.

Pause midday for a scenic picnic lunch near the Hippo Pool, watching the pods wallow and splash in the shallow water as spoonbills and herons feed along the edges.

After lunch, continue your safari through acacia woodlands and grassy plains, keeping an eye out for warthogs, impalas, and elusive leopards. The lake itself is a sparkling mirror that reflects the surrounding cliffs and wildlife perfect for photography and peaceful contemplation.
