Itinerary
Depart early from Arusha or Moshi and journey northeast through scenic coffee plantations and banana farms toward the charming Marangu village nestled on the lower slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Start your morning with a guided nature walk to the Marangu Waterfalls, meandering through rainforest vegetation, lush greenery, and rural trails. At the base of the falls, take time to relax, dip your feet in the cool mountain stream, or simply enjoy the tranquil sound of cascading water in the forest.
From here, head to a traditional Chagga homestead where you’ll receive a warm welcome and fascinating insight into the tribe’s way of life. Learn how the Chagga have farmed and lived in harmony with the mountain for generations. Explore traditional underground caves used as shelter during tribal conflicts and visit a local banana and coffee farm to see how coffee is cultivated and processed then enjoy a hands-on coffee roasting and tasting session.
Enjoy a traditional Chagga lunch, featuring local staples such as banana stew, ugali, and cooked greens prepared with love by local women.
After lunch, if time permits, visit the Marangu Gate of Kilimanjaro National Park, the starting point for many climbers. Take a short stroll and soak in the mountain air while learning about the climbing routes.
