Itinerary

Your day begins with a short, scenic drive from Arusha to the base of Mount Meru, where you’ll find Lake Duluti, a dormant crater lake tucked between thick forests and volcanic hills. On arrival at Duluti Forest Club, you’ll meet your local guide and begin with a gentle nature walk around the lake’s edge.

The forest is alive with bird calls home to hornbills, kingfishers, cormorants, fish eagles, and more than 130 bird species. Look closely and you might see monitor lizards, monkeys, and butterflies flitting across your path as you learn about the lake’s unique volcanic origins and the ecosystems it supports.

After the hike, enjoy a relaxing canoe ride across the serene waters. As you paddle past overhanging trees and reed beds, take in views of Mount Meru, and if skies are clear, even Mount Kilimanjaro might appear on the horizon. The lake, rumored to be over 700 meters deep, is peaceful and silent—ideal for quiet reflection or simply soaking in the natural beauty.

You’ll return to shore for a leisurely lunch or drink break at the forest club. There’s time to rest, swim (optional), or enjoy a cold local beer before your drive back to Arusha in the afternoon.
