Embark on the longest and most scenic trail to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro with this 9-day Northern Circuit Route Trek. Itinerary

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) where a friendly representative awaits. Transfer to your charming hotel in Moshi offering cozy rooms, hot showers, Wi-Fi, gardens, and a swimming pool. In the evening, meet your guides for a full briefing, equipment check, and safety talk to prepare for your journey.

Today’s hike leads you out of the forest and into the heather zone. Climb steadily to the Shira Plateau for your first glimpse of Kibo Peak. Arrive at Shira 1 Camp (3,610m) for a hot meal and some well-earned rest.

Elevation: 2,650m to 3,610m

Hiking Time: 5–6 hours

Trek across the plateau to Shira 2 Camp (3,850m), with an option to summit Cathedral Peak (3,872m). This acclimatization hike offers fantastic views of the surrounding plains and volcanic formations.

Elevation: 3,610m to 3,850m

Hiking Time: 4–6 hours

Ascend gradually to the iconic Lava Tower (4,630m) before diverting to the quieter Moir Hut (4,200m) at the base of the Lent Hills. This day offers excellent acclimatization and optional hill walks in the afternoon.

Elevation: 3,850m to 4,200m via Lava Tower

Hiking Time: 6–7 hours

Today begins with a moderate ascent out of Moir Valley. Continue over rocky terrain with sweeping views across northern Tanzania and southern Kenya before reaching Buffalo Camp.

Elevation: 4,200m to 4,020m

Hiking Time: 5–7 hours

Enjoy a tranquil trek across the quiet northern slopes, ascending Buffalo Ridge and continuing to Third Cave. This stretch offers stunning views and a deep sense of wilderness.

Elevation: 4,020m to 3,870m

Hiking Time: 5–6 hours

Climb steadily toward the Saddle a stark alpine desert between Mawenzi and Kibo en route to School Hut (4,750m). Arrive early for rest and summit prep.

Elevation: 3,870m to 4,750m

Hiking Time: 4–6 hours

Begin your summit attempt around midnight, climbing to Gilman’s Point (5,685m) and finally Uhuru Peak (5,895m). Take photos at the top of Africa before descending via Barafu to Mweka Camp.

Elevation: 4,750m – 5,895m – 3,100m

Hiking Time: 12–14 hours

Complete your descent through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate. Celebrate your incredible journey and return to Moshi for a hot shower, restful sleep, and farewell dinner.

Elevation: 3,100m to 1,640m

Hiking Time: 4–5 hours

Departure Day

Relax at your hotel and enjoy breakfast. Standard check-out is at 11:00 AM. Airport transfers or additional excursions can be arranged.
